Thai Takeaway in Kendal (Our Story)
Welcome To Thai Kitchen
It is amazing what can happen within a few years. What began in February 2018 as a unit for storage and food preparation soon became a small streetfood cafe.
We cooked Thai meals on the street from our little market stall – the one we use for events and shows around Cumbria – and catered for workers on the industrial estate Tuesday, Thursday and Friday lunchtimes.
By July demand had grown for our food, so we closed on Tuesday and opened every Thursday from 12 until 9. Then, by October we were also cooking on Fridays.
The concept of developing a streetfood cafe began to evolve, and by February 2019 we had installed a wok cooker and developed the unit into an open kitchen, where customers can watch their meals being cooked.
In 2020 our business took another direction when we opened our ‘Thai Cafe in Kendal’.
This was re-branded in the spring of 2021 and established its own identity as the ‘Khao Soi Thai Cafe‘ serving tapas-style traditional Thai food, inspired by dishes from grass-roots Thai cuisine. The cafe closed in 2021.
Takeaway
From March 2020 during the COVID-19 restrictions, and to keep our customers safe, we developed Kendal’s only ‘Drive-Thru’ Thai takeaway at Unit 6 on Dockray Hall. From 2021 we increased our opening days and now serve food from Tuesday to Saturday evenings 5-9pm – and so was born our Thai takeaway in Kendal.
Cafe
In 2024 we opened our cafe at the takeaway premises on Dockray with seating for 14. This serves Thai food from Tuesday to Thursday from 5-9pm. The atmosphere is informal and our focus is on providing quality food.

How it Works (Drive-Thru Takeaway)
We operate an adapted drive-thru system. This operation developed through the COVID lockdown, and even though this has now ended, our system proved so popular, that we have decided to continue with it.
We are open from 5pm – 9pm Tuesday to Saturday for takeaways. It is advisable to pre-order whenever possible, especially on Friday and Saturday, by email or text (07768 808249) after choosing your dishes from our menu. All our food is cooked fresh, we do not pre-cook any meals,
If you prefer not to pre-order then you can contact us during opening hours (5-9pm) to place your order, although at busy times we cannot guarantee your preferred collection time. Walk-ins are welcome although we cannot guarantee to serve you immediately.
We try to keep waiting times for collection to a maximum of 15 minutes. Recently we have been max’d out on Friday and Saturday evenings. To avoid disappointment please pre-order whenever possible.
Once you have received your collection time, drive or walk to collect, and we will bring your order out to you. You can pay by card or cash. Enjoy your meal. Thank you.

Pork Sesame Toast
It may seem a strange concept, to layer cuts of bread with minced pork, scatter sesame seeds on top, then deep fry and serve with a sweet & sour plum sauce. Thai food is different and this dish tastes fantastic; a Thai street food classic.

‘Box To Go’ Combo
Our very popular street food starter combo of chicken satay, spring rolls, pork and sesame toast, crispy wonton and corn fritters with our homemade satay sauce and a plum sauce dip is one of our best selling dishes. This great value starter combines two of each starter in a ‘box to go.’

Our Thai takeaway in Kendal is open from Tuesday to Saturday each week from 5pm – 9pm.
Our cafe is open Tuesday to Thursday from 5pm – 9pm.
The takeaway is situated north of Kendal at Unit 6, Dockray Hall Mill (LA9 4RU).
